🠈 Summit County 🠊
Established in 1854, Summit County sits in the highlands of Utah and includes peaks of the Wasatch and Uinta Mountains. The 2010 census reported a permanent population of 29,736. The area supports thousands seasonal workers, second homes and a steady stream of tourists. I believe that the actual number of people in the county on any given day is much higher, perhaps closer to 100,000.
The high country of Utah had been a favorite hunting grounds of Native Americans for millennia and was visited by numerous Western Explorers before Utah became a territory of the United States.
With a short growing season, the area became popular with hunters, ranchers and miners. The County Seat of Coalville was named for fossil fuels found nearby. Park City boomed with the discovery of silver.
Today, Summit County is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts with Park City and Deer Valley resort attracting skiers from around the globe and the Uinta and Wasatch Mountains attracting back country enthusiasts.
